Gujarat may get India's first medical device park

Union Government is mulling over setting up India's first medical device park in Gujarat. 

This was announced by Union minister of chemical and fertilizers Ananth Kumar here on Wednesday while speaking after laying down the foundation stone of the permanent campus of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) at Gandhinagar. 

He further said that while India is exporting medicines to approx. 200 countries, but the country is still dependent on other countries for medical devices. "We want to make India a self-sufficient in the field of medical devices. Our ministry is planning to set up a Medical Devices Park in Gujarat" he added. 

Further, he said that the government is planning to expand Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology campus at Sanand soon after receiving additional land from the state government. He also promised a Pharma Park in the state adding that around 12,000 students would get training in plastic engineering following the expansion of CIPET in the state.
